Co-Working MoTown Style

Last week I led an incredible three days tour
of co-working spaces in Detroit, as part national study tours I do 2x per year.  Aside from how amazing the rebirth of Detroit was, saw so many great ideas and spaces that were great inspiration for Craft|Work.

WeWork had just opened a new place with over seven floors of offices and meeting rooms.  Great stuff.

Also went to see Quicken Loan’s internal design office (Dpop!), which was beyond fun.  Great art, great collaboration, private space when you needed it (including an old bank vault made into a conference room!) but lots of great excitement and energy.

Saw and heard from others who explained how important the ‘community’ aspect of co-working is.

Definitely need to have an office when you want it, but the common, collaborative spaces were very important not only for creating great energy, but to also help members build their business.  We heard from one operator that within 6 months of joining, 80% of their members were doing business with another member.
How great is that?!

Yep! This is how you keep the noisy phone talkers at bay!

Much like people’s homes, the Kitchen is an essential part of the community. Front and center, and in this particular set up – Craft Brew on tap 24/7!

.: Follow our progress :.

Progress continues on the evolution of Craft|Work Healdsburg.  You may have seen our posters around town, and we’re getting great interest on our website and the ‘needs survey’.  The survey is supporting a lot of what I heard in Detroit.  Definitely need a mix of open and private office options.

Last week we had meetings with the City to check zoning and fire codes and all that fun stuff.  And also interviewed a great architect we’re very excited about.

Next up, finalizing our deal with the landlord and getting underway.

If you haven’t taken the survey yet, you can do so here
